FAQ

WHO IS YOUR TYPICAL CLIENT?

Our clients are discerning individuals: thoughtful, curious, brave, and independent—great people. We enjoy collaborating with a diverse range of clients, including single professionals, couples, families, and particularly those dynamic individuals who are short on time but desire a home that nurtures and inspires them. We cater to those seeking not just a space, but a reflection of their aspirations and achievements.

WHAT DOES FULL SERVICE MEAN?

Full service encompasses the comprehensive development, management, and implementation of a design package, from the initial concept through to completion. Our design scope covers every element within a home, including wall and floor finishes, lighting solutions, furnishings, and soft goods, ensuring a cohesive and well-thought-out space.

DO YOU OFFER CONSULTATION SERVICES?

No, we remain dedicated to our core expertise—designing and implementing comprehensive residential interiors. As such, we do not offer consultation services or engage in client-driven decoration projects. Our focus is on delivering complete, cohesive interior solutions that reflect our high standards and design philosophy.

ARE YOU FIXED FEE OR HOURLY?

Both. We charge an hourly fee for our design time and a fixed fee for the build of your project. For us, this means we are compensated fairly based on how many iterations of a design you may need to see. For you, this means you are billed for the actual time we spend on your project, not an inflated estimation of time. In the design phase, we design and source materials with an agreed upon target budget in mind. In the construction phase, the final cost is presented after the conceptual design has been approved, all of the materials and finishes have been selected, and our subcontractors have presented their bids.

WILL YOU IMPLEMENT A CLIENT'S EXISTING FURNISHINGS?

Yes, we occasionally refinish, reupholster, and repurpose clients' furniture and lighting to blend cherished pieces with new designs. However, to maintain the integrity and cohesion of our design vision, we limit the incorporation of existing client-owned items to a maximum of 25% of the total furnishings required for a project.

WHAT IS MY ROLE IN THE PROCESS?

Our clients are the heart of our inspiration—your input is crucial. At the start of each project, we engage you with a detailed questionnaire and a programming meeting to thoroughly understand your desires and requirements. The design is shaped by these insights, as well as the architecture and setting of your home. Once a concept is established, EJDB takes the lead, steering the design and meticulously managing every aspect of the project from its inception through to the final installation.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT TO INVEST? WHAT SIZE PROJECT DOES EJDB TAKE ON?

We handle a diverse array of projects, from compact apartments to expansive family homes. The feasibility of a project is determined by the client, the scope of work, and the appropriate budget, with whole house interior design projects generally beginning at $100,000, kitchen remodels at $75,000, and bathroom remodels at $35,000. We welcome smaller and partial projects, provided they are comprehensive in nature and paired with clients who are both adventurous and receptive to the creative process.

HOW LONG DOES THE PROCESS TAKE?

It depends on the scope and scale of your project. For a typical kitchen or primary bathroom renovation, we allocate 8-12 weeks for the design phase, another 2-4 weeks are needed for construction documentation and the building permit, and 6-8 weeks for construction.

For our interior design projects, we allow anywhere from 4-12 weeks for the design of each space and depending on the scope of the project, up to 1 year for the completion of your space. We believe that your space should tell your unique story. We prefer artisan-made over factory-made and source merchandise with process, origin and materials in mind. Incorporating unique, oftentimes handcrafted pieces sourced from near and far takes time. Our approach lends itself to creating spaces that feel collected and curated over time.

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD I BOOK MY PROJECT?

We tend to book up at least 3 months out so the sooner the better! We suggest starting the interview process early to allow enough time for us to get to know one another and time to schedule your project.
